I.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The
Synod Executive is responsible for guiding the Regional Synod of Albany in
continually discovering a Christ-centered vision of the RCA's purpose and
direction, and for effectively communicating and implementing ways to pursue
that vision. With the support of competent staff, the Synod Executive
directs the operation of an efficient and effectively functioning Regional Synod
of Albany and the Fowler Camp and Retreat Center.
Under
the direction of the RSA Executive Committee in consultation with the Synod
Ministry Board, this person is responsible for the day to day management of the
RSA, provides leadership to RSA staff, and ensures that all RSA ministries
assist classes in the development of mission-oriented churches.
II.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities include,
but are not limited to, the following:
A)
Leading the
RSA Executive Committee, the Area Ministers and the Fowler Ministries Board in
transforming the synod structure into one that strengthens the ministries of the
classes and promotes congregational health.
B)
Ensuring that
all RSA ministries encourage classes and congregations within the RSA to become
more mission oriented.
C)
Working with
classes and potential candidates to encourage effective pastoral leadership
within the RSA.
D)
Supporting the
President and Vice-President of the RSA Executive Committee in leadership of the
Synod Ministry Board, RSA Executive Committee, and the annual assembly of the
RSA.
E)
Identifying
gifts and equipping leadership among the members of the RSA in order to have the
most able persons in leadership positions.
F)
Ensuring
employees are adequately trained for the duties they are expected to perform,
assisting with their ongoing development in assigned ministries, and counseling
staff as needed.
G)
Completing
work plans and evaluating staff on schedule.
H)
Providing
supervision and support for Area Ministers in their work with each other,
classes and local churches, including interpreting RSA/denominational ministries
and policies.
I)
Supervising
all synod staff on behalf of the Albany Synod Executive Committee.
J)
Working with
the RSA Executive and Finance Committees to develop strategies that ensure
sufficient funding for the RSA to develop and promote continuing RSA ministries.
K)
Seeking and
developing financial gifts to aid the continuing ministry of the RSA.
L)
Convening
region-wide meetings to encourage cooperative mission opportunities as well as
build community within the RSA that will strengthen the RSA.
M)
Representing
the RSA, or provide liaison support, within denominational and ecumenical
agencies and staff groups.
N)
Providing for
the maintenance and care of the RSA offices and building.
O)
Providing
oversight of Fowler Ministries as an ex
officio member of its board and implementing policies and decisions in
conjunction with the director of this ministry.
P)
Executing
other responsibilities, as assigned, by the RSA Executive Committee and the
Fowler Ministries Board.

PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS /COMPETENCIES:
Bachelor's
degree from an accredited college or university
Experience
as a pastor or staff member of an RCA congregation or as part of the Consistory
of an RCA congregation
Knowledge
of RCA's history and polity and the social and church culture of the Northeast
Experience
in building and leading a team and/or multi-staffed approach to ministry
A
strong and evident Christian faith that embraces the Reformed tradition

A driver's license is necessary.

Travel Requirements:
Frequent
travel throughout
New York
State
is required as well as travel to denominational and other meetings in
North America
.
